Underground Propane Tanks

Underground tanks are safe, easy to maintain, and affordable to install

When researching the type of tank to purchase and install on your property, your main choices are between an above-ground or underground propane tank. Underground tanks offer the homeowner a safe, nearly maintenance-free tank that is unobtrusive and aesthetically pleasing.

Because Propane is released as a gas, it doesn’t spill, pool, or leave a residue. In the highly unlikely event of a release, propane is not harmful to soil or water, making it a classifying alternative fuel.

Underground Propane Tanks: The Smart Choice

  • Propane tanks, which can hold between 125 and 1,000 gallons are uniquely suited to be buried underground. Unlike aboveground tanks which can be affected by extreme weather and temperature – underground tanks are buried in soil with constant year-round temperature.
  • Underground tanks are protected from corrosion by the use of a cathodic protection system that protects them from electrolysis. (Most local codes require tanks to be periodically tested and maintained, a service that Gerner is happy to provide)
  • Tank installations must meet stringent code requirements developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFRP). Gerner Energy follows all local, state, and federal codes when installing tanks.
  • Our delivery drivers can easily access your tank through a small, unobtrusive dome that is visibly just inches above the ground.
  • Our tank monitor keeps a constant watch on your tank levels and can automatically schedule a delivery when your tank reaches 20%. This monitor can detect any leaks in the system, keeping your family safe and secure.
  • Our delivery team inspects your tank at each delivery, ensuring its safe operation for years to come.

You can request a site survey of your property to help determine if an underground tank would be good for you and your home.
